Dell launches customer support in Namibia

US computer maker and software firm Dell has launched its customer support services in Namibia.

The Dell ‘ProSupport’ services is planned to offer technical support capabilities, spare parts and certified field engineers, reports Namibian newspaper Informante.

According to the report, Dell’s services director for Europe, Middle and East Africa, John Reynolds, has said the launch of the services in Namibia development is part of a roll-out of Dell value-addition services in emerging markets.

Dell service provision partners in Namibia are planned to include Schoemanns, SALT and BCX Namibia.

Namibia has a population of just over 2.3 million, according to World Bank figures.

But Dell’s move to launch support services in Namibia comes as its shareholders face a critical decision - whether or not to approve founder Michael Dell's proposal to take the personal computer maker private at $13.65 a share.

The special shareholders' vote is now too close to call, with activist investor Carl Icahn and major shareholder Southeastern Asset Management repeatedly arguing that the offer undervalues the company and its growth prospects.

Dell may therefore decide to delay the vote to gain time to shore up stronger support for the deal, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.
