Fintech Moniepoint has announced an expansion of its flagship "Women in Tech" initiative, which is now in its fifth year.

The program will increase internship places from 10 to 15, allowing more women in Africa to obtain hands-on experience in the technology business.

According to a statement from Moniepoint, the program is intended to bridge the gender gap in technology while also supporting the urgent call to action for gender equality.

Since its inception, the Women in Tech initiative has been a catalyst for change, providing young women with the skills and confidence they need to excel in a male-dominated industry, according to the company.

By expanding the program, Moniepoint hopes to foster gender inclusion and drive innovation in Africa's tech ecosystem.

“Moniepoint’s Women in Tech program seeks to address this imbalance by providing mentorship, practical experience, and career development opportunities in fields such as cloud engineering, backend engineering, data engineering, and user experience," the statement reads.

This year's cohort, known as the "Dream 15," will engage the young women in a six-month paid internship and receive mentorship, work tools, branded gear, and the opportunity to secure full-time employment based on their performance.

Chinaza Nduka-Dike, vice president of people operations at Moniepoint, emphasised the program's significance.

“We are not just inspiring inclusion; we are creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in tech. Diversity fuels innovation, and through this initiative, we are empowering women to take on leadership roles and shape the future of technology,” she said
