‘Hackers target Kenya’s chief justice Willy Mutunga’

Hackers have targeted the email and Twitter accounts of Kenya’s chief justice Willy Mutunga.

This is according to a statement from Kenya’s chief justice’s communication office, which on Tuesday said that Mutunga’s telephone conversations had also been tapped and his meetings secretly recorded for reasons yet to be established.

The judiciary has disclosed that it had opened investigations into the culprits behind the violations.

“The judiciary is determined to eliminate surveillance culture by closing in on the small cowardly and criminal enterprises that believe it can violate official and private communication at will,” it stated.

The Judiciary has in recent weeks been in the spotlight over allegations of hatching a scheme to throw out the chief registrar, Gladys Shollei.

Leaked emails from the judiciary have reportedly revealed an orchestrated plan to oust Shollei, with the chief justice being fingered as being key to the alleged plan.

Kenya’s ‘Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’ is probing the judiciary over allegations of impropriety.
