This is the first time the government payroll software has encountered such a problem.

Cameroon's finance ministry was affected by an undisclosed computer glitch this month, affecting education sector salaries.

According to the ministry, the incident resulted in an involuntary reduction in the September salary of 1,478 employees out of a total of 388,811 public servants on its payroll.

Yaouba Abdoulaye, minister delegate in the ministry of finance, expressed remorse for the situation and assured impacted employees that the ministry's technology experts and other service providers were working hard to restore order.

“Arrangements have already been made for the positioning of supplementary salaries for the staff affected, by no later than Tuesday October 1, 2024,” Abdoulaye noted in a statement.

This is the first time the government payroll software has encountered such a problem affecting staff on such a large scale.
