In preparation of the introduction of 5G, Ericsson yesterday announced a new technology partnership with mobile operator e& Egypt.

According to the terms of the agreement, Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) 20-port antennas will be integrated into e& Egypt's network to enable "high-order site sharing" for all operators in the country on e& Egypt's infrastructure, hence optimising structures for the planned deployment of 5G.

In a statement, Ericsson said EAS improves network performance and coverage without requiring additional power sources since it uses several frequencies and technologies on a single radio site.

Antennas, which act as the gateways for radio access networks (RAN), are essential for improving network performance and energy efficiency, according to a statement from Ericsson.

The company added that users throughout Egypt will benefit from quicker speeds, more dependable service, and better connectivity thanks to the installation of EAS antennas.

The networks director of e& Egypt, Hossam Abdelkader, stated: " e& is committed to supporting, building, and developing the communities in which it operates.

“Our efforts in Egypt align with the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030. Our new partnership with Ericsson will enable us to open new opportunities for consumers and businesses in the country through expanding 4G capabilities and preparing for 5G.”

According to Salman Ateeque, head of network solutions at Ericsson Middle East and Africa for global customer Unit e&, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and Pakistan, “By harnessing the power of high-performance antennas, we are not just optimising networks; we are laying the groundwork for a seamless transition to 5G and beyond."
