Silicon Valley's Volo helps Ugandan ISP Zoom setup within 12 weeks

Ugandan internet service provider (ISP) Zoom Wireless setup its operations in less than 12 weeks with the help of Silicon Valley company Volo.

In a press statement, Volo says it helped Zoom Wireless (www.zoom.co.ug), a part of SINFA Uganda LTD, start offering a range of corporate, small business and residential grade fixed wireless services in Gulu, Uganda, within weeks.

Volo further claims it helped Zoom Wireless deploy its operations with "ten times less capital and operating cost than traditional LTE networks."

Volo, which has headquarters in San Francisco, says it helps ISPs and telecom providers in emerging markets design and deploy fixed wireless broadband services "quickly and profitably."

Volo details how it helped Zoom Wireless create a carrier-grade last mile Wi-Fi network that is fibre-backed and integrated with cloud-based management software,

"Volo's experts got us up and running from greenfield to market in under 12 weeks. That would have been impossible without them," said Joseph Walusimbi, general manager of SINFA Uganda LTD and Zoom Wireless.

Meanwhile, internet services from Zoom include speeds from 1-9 Mbps for corporate customers and 512 kbps for small businesses and residences.

Zoom also claims it sells 1 Mbps or 3 Mbps packages at approximately 50% of the rates of their competitors with no usage caps.
