Nairobi technology innovation centre, the iHub, has announced that Josiah Mugambi is to become its executive director as of 1 September.

Mugambi replaces Erik Hersman, who is the co-founder of the iHub.

iHub started operations in 2010, and since its launch, it has become renowned as a symbol for Kenya’s burgeoning technology scene.

Startups have used the iHub’s resources for support while even the likes of global mobile phone industry body, the GSMA, has used the facility as its Africa office.

“I will continue as the chair of the board, thus staying involved in governance and strategic direction of the iHub, though no longer in the day-to-day management,” says Hersman in a blog post.

“This has come about due to the growth of the iHub itself. As the team has expanded, the facility, partners and community require more focused attention,” Hersman adds.

Mugambi has been involved with the iHub project prior to its inception in 2010, says Hersman.
