Lenovo seeks to grow African market share with AI
Lenovo, a technology business, is hopeful about increasing its market share on the continent, boosted by recently announced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered devices and success in Southern Africa.
This is according to Yugen Naidoo, general manager of Lenovo Southern Africa, in an interview with ITWeb Africa.
The executive told the publication that in South Africa, the continent's largest economy, Lenovo continued to lead the consumer notebook and desktop segment with devices such as the Legion, Yoga, and Ideapad lines, which contribute to the company's 22.6% market share.
“The businesses success in South Africa has mirrored the global success. Globally our PC (personal computer) market share is 24,3 percent,” he said.
“Across the Southern African Development Community region, Lenovo has been able to be successful with a market share of 34,4 percent, making us number one in the region.”
Naidoo pointed out that Lenovo planned to increase its market share by leveraging AI-driven innovation.
During the January Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, United States, the company unveiled 60 new products, including the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 rollable notebook, lightweight ThinkPad, ThinkPad X9, and Yoga Slim 9i.
“These are products we hope to launch in the continent in 2025,” Naidoo said.
Naidoo pledged that Lenovo will continue producing devices that empower professionals, gamers, creators, and students by delivering smarter technology and AI innovation to provide personalised, productive, and secure solutions.
“Lenovo continues to push the boundaries of innovation in Africa, we plan to continue this trend by leading the way in delivering powerful desktop and visual solutions tailored to the evolving needs of our customers,” Naidoo said.
