Dimension Data outlines e-learning plans for SA

Multinational software firm, Dimension Data, has outlined its plans to expand its e-learning programme to more schools around South Africa.

The initiative has been introduced to five new schools in 2012.

South African-headquartered Dimension Data established its e-Learning initiative in 1996.

The programme covers the curriculum for grades 10, 11 and 12 and is designed to improve the quality and depth of secondary education output.

E-Learning centres are equipped with a central server, wireless network, drop down screens and an e-learning trolley. The trolley comprises a computer, projector, DVD player, wireless router and amplified speakers and a computer. Each school is equipped with five e-learning trolley machines.

Teachers at the schools have been trained to use the system so that it can be utilised to the utmost, and its benefits reach a vast majority of learners.

“We plan to introduce the system to five new schools before the end of 2012,” said Waggie Mokoka, Dimension Data marketing specialist.

To date, Dimension Data has said its programme has reached more than 30,000 learners from 55 schools in eight provinces. Moreover, 4 000 educators have been trained on how to use the system, according to the firm.
