Vumacam, a video surveillance service, has partnered with the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) to provide the province access to the company's sizeable camera network and other technology-driven crime-fighting solutions.

GPG will have immediate access to an extensive network of over 6,000 cameras throughout the province, as well as partner cameras around the country.

The partnership has further agreed to expand camera coverage to underserved areas, particularly townships and informal settlements.

The deal, announced today, follows Vumacam’s announcement last year of an additional R60 million investment in the City of Johannesburg to combat crime.

Vumacam introduced the SafeCity programme in June, claiming that, through coordinated technological and manpower efforts, it was intended to assist the city in combating a spike in crime.

Vumacam announced today that the Department of eGovernment, as the delivery agency for the GPG's 4IR programme, will supply smart integrated CCTV cameras, on an ‘as-a-service’ basis, to all its clients, to increase and "improve service delivery through greater efficiency."
