MTN Group comms boss receives global recognition
Nompilo Morafo, MTN Group's chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, has been named on the US-based PRovoke Media's annual list of the world's most influential in-house communicators.
The Influence 100 is an annual list of the world's most influential in-house communicators: the chief communications officers, heads of corporate affairs, and chief marketing officers with the influence in the industry, based on their personal voice, the status of the companies for which they work, and the PR agency hiring decisions they make.
According to the organizers, Morafo has been working on behalf of MTN Group since 2022, with a focus on decarbonisation, rural connectivity, greater diversity and inclusion, improved stakeholder management, and digital human rights protection.
Morafo joined MTN in 2019 from LafargeHolcim, a building materials company, where she was the country director for communications, public affairs, and sustainable development.
She was also formerly headquartered in Mozambique as the vice president of Sasol's international exploration and production business.
Morafo commented on being named to the Influence 100, saying that in order to effectively empower more women in technology, companies must go beyond good intentions and take concrete action.
She continued: “This means creating inclusive workplaces, providing targeted development programs, and actively dismantling barriers that prevent women from reaching their full potential.
“More than a moral imperative; it's a strategic advantage for businesses to tap into the full spectrum of talent available. By nurturing female tech talent, we not only drive innovation but also build a more equitable and prosperous future for all."
According to Morafo, as we enter month of August to celebrate Women's Month, her “aspiration for women in South Africa and across Africa is to see a future where they boldly seize opportunities, embrace their unique potential, and take chances on themselves. I envision a society where every woman feels empowered to step outside her comfort zone, pursue her dreams, and become the leader she was meant to be."
