Eutelsat connects one million Africans to satellite internet
As part of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Partner2Connect Digital Coalition (P2C) agreement, Eutelsat Group has connected 1 million people across Sub-Saharan Africa to satellite internet two years ahead of time.
The P2C is ITU’s global alliance to mobilise and announce new resources, partnerships, and commitments for universal, meaningful connectivity.
The initiative drives digital transformation across all countries, with special attention to the hardest-to-connect communities, particularly in least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small Island developing states.
Eutelsat Group announced yesterday that it is committed to bridging the global digital gap and connecting 1 million underserved people in Sub-Saharan Africa to meet its obligations to P2C, and that it is "pleased to be advancing progress towards the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."
Eva Berneke, CEO of Eutelsat Group, commented: “Reaching this milestone means 1 million people now have access to vital information, education, and communication resources through our Konnect solution.
“This achievement highlights our commitment to digital inclusion and underscores how we leverage cutting-edge satellite network solutions to meet the challenging demands for low-cost, high-availability, and trusted services in Africa.
"With both our GEO satellite fleet and the Eutelsat OneWeb LEO constellation, we are expanding our reach and ensuring that connectivity drives meaningful economic and social progress, empowering communities to thrive in the digital era.”
