Telecoms operator Moov is the latest in Togo to launch 4G services and aims to attract 200,000 users on its 4G network by the end of 2018.

The operator revealed that it had more than 2,000 4G users within a week of introducing the service and its target to reach 200,000 is realistic.

Abdellah Tabhiret, Managing Director at Moov Togo, said the company is pitching 4G to its subscribers as a service that offers new opportunities, better and faster network.

"With this, our users and the Togolese people generally will be able to stream and use apps that require high-speed internet. With 4G comes new opportunities for our users and this confirms our commitment to revolutionise Togo's mobile sector."

Moov, which recently crossed the 3 million users mark, is the latest operator in Togo to rollout 4G service, and the second in one week after TogoCel, which launched its own 4G service to coincide with its 20th anniversary.

Both operators received their 4G licenses in June 2018 from Togo's Authority of Posts & Telecommunications Regulation (ART&P).

Moov plans to invest "millions of dollars" to modernise its national network and attract 4G subscribers.

The company has rolled out 4G in the capital city of Lomé and its surroundings, for both individual and corporate clients.

It has vowed to expand its coverage radius "shortly".

In March 2018, ITWeb Africa reported the launch of private telecoms operator Vivendi Africa's high-speed Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) internet service.

Cina Lawson, Togo's Minister of the Digital Economy noted that the increasing competition in Togo's 4G space "should help in lowering the cost of telecoms services in Togo".
