Tanzania fixed line operator struggles to recoup debt
Fixed line telecoms company Tanzania Telecommunication Limited (TTLC) has reportedly collected only $2million debt out of $6.5 million owed to it by the public and government.
However, TTCL chief executive officer, Dr. Kamugisha Kazaura, has reportedly the debt collection exercise is still on course.
“We are working hard in collaboration with the science, communication and technology ministry and that of finance to ensure all the money is collected,” he added.
Government institutions that do not comply by paying up their balances could risk having their telecommunication services shut down in the process, say reports.
In October last year, the parliamentary economic infrastructure committee (EIC) directed that the company recover money owed to it within three months.
TTCL was partially privatised in 2001.
The company provides services to 300,000 businesses and individuals in Tanzania.
