Cell C strengthens board
Mobile operator Cell C has announced the inclusion of Maya Makanjee and Godfrey Motsa to its board today, saying the company's focus is on accelerating growth and fuelling investor confidence.
Both executives have extensive experience in the telecoms space, having worked for Cell C’s peers in the past.
Makanjee previously served as chief officer: corporate affairs at the Vodacom Group, while Motsa a 25 year telecom veteran, has previously held various executive roles within MTN Group. He resigned as MTN SA CEO in 2021. Motsa joined MTN from rival Vodacom in July 2016.
Cell C board chairman, Joe Mthimunye, said: "Their impressive track records and diverse experiences will strategically guide Cell C into the future. Maya's expertise in stakeholder engagement, corporate citizenship, and sustainable development, coupled with Godfrey's transformative leadership and market insights, will accelerate our growth, and reinforce our position as a serious contender in the telecommunications industry. This move underscores our commitment to South Africa and our dedication to delivering exceptional value to our stakeholders."
The new additions to Cell C board come after the telco successfully navigated a complex transaction to de-leverage the balance sheet as part of the telco’s turnaround strategy.
