IHS secures further $130mn for African expansion
African mobile tower firm IHS has secured a further $130 million to expand across the continent, the latest in a series of fundraising drives by the company.
IHS in a statement on Thursday said that it had secured the additional $130 million “in the second tranche of its latest fundraising.”
“The capital raise is in addition to the $490 million of debt and equity announced 3 March 2014 and is with existing investors,” says the company in a statement.
“IHS will use the funds to accelerate its plans for expansion into new and existing markets,” explains the firm.
Last year, IHS secured $522 million in debt and equity to help it build more than 1,000 build-to-site towers in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.
In December, IHS also agreed to buy 1,200 tower sites in Rwanda and Zambia from South Africa's MTN.
IHS owns and manages around 10,500 transmitter towers in Nigeria as well as Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Zambia.
