German TV broadcaster launches online service in SA

German television broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 Welt is expected to be available via a mobile application and the web in South Africa.

Those who wish to watch their favourite programmes will be able to do so via their smartphone or tablet devices.

According to the German Embassy in South Africa some 2,000 Germans immigrate to South Africa each year.

And in a ProSieben press statement, the company notes that Germans living in South Africa have the opportunity to watch popular German TV shows like “Der letzte Bulle”, “Ladykracher” and “Pastewka”.

Users of the app or website will also have the opportunity to view recent TV shows and programmes of the last 12 hours, depending on the respective time zone and preference, the statement adds.

“Every year way more than 100,000 Germans are setting up a new existence abroad. With our new offer they maybe have a little less homesickness and also stay up-to-date in the distance which excites the audience over here every day anew” said Zeljko Karajica, managing director ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany.

ProSiebenSat.1 Welt is being launched in 17 other markets with South Africa being the only African country.

Users will be have access to the ProSiebenSat.1 group TV shows for only 7.90 Euro per month.
