TelOne partners with Avanti Communications on satellite broadband rollout

An alliance between Zimbabwe telco TelOne and satellite communication services provider Avanti Communications has resulted in high-speed satellite broadband to the country's SME market segment.

According to a press statement issued by the partners businesses operating in rural areas of the country are particularly prone to connectivity challenges, including low levels of broadband penetration.

"A lack of network infrastructure and affordable connectivity services available can create barriers for business growth, particularly for SMEs operating in a hugely competitive market," the companies explained.

To address this TelOne, Zimbabwe's largest telecoms operator, partnered with Avanti Communications to make available the satellite IP's HYLAS 2 satellite, and, more specifically, its Ka-band technology.

"The satellite dish was installed by an Avanti-trained team warehouse, providing real-time access to customers," reads a joint statement from the companies.

According to the industry allies SMEs benefit from more efficient processes, including tasks like quotations and invoices, reliable access to the web, and the ability to process more jobs, to help fuel business growth.

A local manufacturer of speakers and musical instruments, Hardwaves did not have access to broadband and, as a result, experienced difficulty in engaging its customers.

Caroline Sibanda, General Manager of Hardwaves, explains why the Avanti/TelOne partnership has made a difference. ""Since TelOne installed the Avanti system, our business has changed. Our jobs have been made easy, everything is now more efficient. Our profits have increased and our dreams of expanding outside of Zimbabwe could be made real with satellite broadband."
