Record growth for Lenovo in EMEA

Strong quarterly growth characterised Lenovo’s Europe, Mideast and Africa business as the world’s biggest PC maker reported a 49% revenue increase to $2.8 billion in EMEA.

Lenovo, which is headquartered in China, says its EMEA revenues grew $921 million year-over-year to reach $2.8 billion, or 27% of the company’ worldwide revenue.

EMEA is Lenovo's second biggest zone in terms of revenue after China, which generated $3.8 billion in revenue for the quarter.

“EMEA saw record highs in PC share and operating margin, hitting the number one position in notebooks for the first time and achieving a number one position in 15 EMEA countries, while smartphone shipments surpassed 1 million devices for the first time,” says the company.

“During the quarter,Lenovo’s PC shipments in EMEA increased 4.8 share points year-over-year in the quarter, to reach an all time high of 18%,” notes Lenovo.

Overall, the company reported that its global revenue topped $10.4 billion, an 18% increase year-over-year.

Meanwhile, its quarter pre-tax income increased 22% year-over-year to $264 million and its earnings grew 23% year-over-year to $214 million.

Lenovo says it has been the world’s largest PC maker for five consecutive quarters. Also, the company maintained its number three ranking in smart connected devices growing shipments by 28% year-over-year.

But while Lenovo has made strong gains, the company operates in a depressed PC market.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide PC shipments fell by 9.8% in 2013.
