Kenya, France strengthen digital ties
William Kabogo, Kenyan cabinet secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, held discussions last night with the French business community about strengthening partnerships, increasing bilateral trade, and expanding digital opportunities.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for Kenya's French business community to network with local businesses and policymakers.
Kabogo said: “We explored areas of collaboration and investment in the digital economy, including skills exchange, digital infrastructure, and market expansion for local businesses. Kenya remains committed to fostering innovation and leveraging technology for economic growth.”
He went on to explain that the engagement was organised by Arnaud Suquet, the French Ambassador to Kenya, whose commitment to improving Kenya-France relations continues to offer up new opportunities for collaboration.
The delegation included Philippe Labonne, head of MEDEF International's Africa committee and Africa Global Logistics, as well as Gerard Wolf, president of MEDEF International's Sustainable City Task Force and Brics Access.
MEDEF International is a non-profit private-sector group founded in 1989 by the French Business Confederation.
“I look forward to more fruitful engagements as we work together to drive Kenya’s digital transformation,” said Kabogo.
Meanwhile, the Kenyan government has approved the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST), as the graduate-only university dedicated to modernising the country's science and technology industries.
Kenya-AIST, located in Konza Technopolis and inspired by prominent institutions such as Korea-AIST and Stanford, will focus on developing talent in engineering, information and communication technology, and biotechnology.
According to the Kenyan government, this decision demonstrates a commitment to boosting Kenya's scientific capabilities and encouraging collaboration among academics, industry, and government for effective research.
