Four weeks after its launch in Nairobi, the taxi service UberX has embarked on training local drivers on how to use the service.

Speaking to ITWeb Africa, Alastair Curtis, Uber's international launcher for Africa said that the company has been training drivers in all the 291 cities they have launched in.

"Uber trains all drivers on things such as customer service - getting them up to the high Uber standards so that wherever a rider requests a ride, anywhere in the world, they will receive the same high level of customer service," Curtis said.

"We also train them on the Uber Partner app itself; have them watch a video explaining the app, then do a demonstration of an actual trip request. We also teach them how to use Google maps, the zoom features. They leave the training session with a new skill set," he added.

The partner app is a separate platform meant for the registration of drivers.

The company did not disclose how many drivers have subscribed to the service but says they have had a great response in the one month they have been live in Kenya.

Curtis also said that the company will be introducing innovative security features for Kenyan drivers in the near future.
