Following the closing of a new $176 million securitised financing facility to support and develop its PayGo consumer loan offering in East Africa, d.light has launched the "d.light Points Program" loyalty scheme in Kenya, with plans to expand it to customers in Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria later this year.

d.light, an off-grid solar product manufacturer, stated that the program aims to assist more than 500,000 clients by the end of the year 2024.

According to the company, the d.light Points Program rewards customers who make regular and frequent payments towards their PayGo products with points that can be exchanged for discounts on future purchases as well as other benefits such as tokens for free days of power.

As the program expands to other African markets, d.light intends to offer additional rewards.

The company unveiled the program on August 7th, following a year of 'in-depth customer research' that included focus groups, surveys, and one-on-one interviews.

Customers can get information on points and rewards at any time through SMS or USSD messaging, as well as the d.light mobile app. Customers can redeem their earned points over the phone or through the app, according to the company.

Commenting on the launch of the program, Donal Connolly, director of credit at d.light, said, “Our customers have had a tough time lately. Months of high inflation in many of the countries we operate in, along with job and income uncertainty in climate-impacted rural areas, have put pressure on households and communities. This includes being able to access and pay for their energy at home.”

He continued: “With this new loyalty program, we are providing d.light customers with the tangible, practical benefits that they themselves have asked for and which help them to more easily access reliable solar energy that improves their day-to-day lives
