Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has been chosen by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to be one of 17 World Acceleration Centres throughout the world.

As a result, MACRA will become a member of the ITU's new flagship Network of Acceleration Centres, which is a component of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development.

The primary goal of these Acceleration Centres is to hasten digital transformation through an ecosystem-focused approach. They seek to improve capabilities that will support innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic digitalisation.

Following the announcement, MACRA Director General Daud Suleman expressed gratitude to The Nation, a local newspaper, saying that it displays ITU's faith and confidence in the authorities' competence and ambition for digital transformation.

"Being a part of the ITU Network of Acceleration Centres will provide the country with valuable opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals, broaden our knowledge base, and contribute to the collective growth and development of our digital industry," he said.

Cosmas Zavazava, director of the ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau, expressed his keen interest to work with the chosen Centres. He believes they will be critical in guiding stakeholders to adopt innovative and forward-thinking ways for navigating the current digital landscape and constructing a sustainable digital future.
