Bayobab team welcoming the landing of 2Africa Subsea Cable in Ghana.

Bayobab, a developer of pan-African digital connectivity solutions, has landed the 45 000km 2Africa subsea cable in Accra, Ghana.

Once completed in 2023 and 2024, the 2Africa undersea cable system will serve Africa's western and eastern areas.

This is the third touchdown in a series of six landings in five nations for Bayobab.

According to company, this landing is an essential step towards fulfilling its aim of connecting Africa with next-generation digital products.

Bayobab's goal is to connect Africa and lay down 135 000km of fibre by 2025.

According to Bayobab, this landing is one of multiple cable landings taking place in 46 places across 33 countries, extending connectivity across the continent.

The arrival of 2Africa in Ghana is a key step towards strengthening cable resiliency, increasing broadband penetration in the country, and improving Ghana's international connectivity, it says.

"The expansion of submarine cable systems will ensure the country's connectivity needs are met, promote economic growth, and strengthen the country's resilience in the face of disruptions.

“This investment is consistent with Bayobab's long-term strategy of supporting the country's expanding communication needs and digital transformation."

According to the company, Ghana is a critical market for Bayobab, contributing considerably to the group's strategic expansion and business goals.

"By serving as an access hub for neighbouring and inland countries such as Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, Ghana plays a critical role in promoting digital acceleration in Africa. Ghana's strategic importance in the WECA region continues to grow, with the addition of the 2Africa Ghana landing station giving the country six cable landings."

Bayobab says it opened Global Customer Success Centres in Ghana and Kenya in October 2022, to improve global customer support.

"The Customer Success Centres were established to insource the Network Operations Centre and establish the now one-year-old Service Operations Centre.

“The Customer Success Centres are a big step forward in Bayobab's expansion across the African continent."

The 2Africa Ghana cable landing, it notes, "further strengthens our presence and commitment to Ghana's connectivity landscape."

The company recently engaged Daniel Asare as managing director of Bayobab Ghana, who will supervise local business and strategic growth in the region.

"Daniel, who joined Bayobab in October 2023, has extensive experience in sales, marketing, business development and general management in the telecommunications and ISP environment.”
