Botswana launches first online retail store

Botswana’s entrepreneurs have announced plans to open the country’s first online shop.

Developers of Shop 360 say the country’s retail sector will never be the same following three months of piloting the online shop project.

According to Tumo Maokisa, co- founder of 360 ADS - Shop360 is an easy to use online retail platform which allows shoppers to visit the online Shop360 catalogue.

“In the last 3 months of operation Shop360 has managed to get more than 12,000 visitors and we intent to reach 100,000 before the end of the year,” said Maokisa.

“We promise to deliver a product in 36 minutes within Gaborone. We hope to deploy the feature across the whole country,” he added.

"The cash on delivery option is valid for people near our dispatch office, which is currently in Gaborone only, this will later be deployed to other locations around the country," Maokisa explained.

Currently the company said that its service is mainly targeted at busy urban dwellers, citing that it can equally be useful to those living in remote areas where there is mobile internet access but no retail stores with a wide variety of products.

Shop360 allows shoppers to buy music, tickets, electronics, clothing and accessories from the comfort of their home or office.
