Eneo, Cameroon's power utility, has warned that it is suffering from a cyber-attack that occurred on January 29 and significantly crippled its computer system.

Eneo did not provide details about the infiltration, but did say that some firm apps had been deactivated as a precaution and to allow measures to secure their system. Prepaid and postpaid operations were significantly impacted.

In a statement, the business said: “In the event of potential unavailability or intermittent slowness, owing to ongoing works, customers are called upon to be patient.”

Eneo has apologised to its customers and stated that it is taking every precaution to ensure that postpaid customers are not penalised for late payments or disconnected for unpaid bills as a result of these incidents.

It added: "These measures will remain in place for as long as the situation is not entirely back to normal."
