‘All Zim ministries now online’
Zimbabwe is forging ahead with its e-government programme, with information and communication technology minister, Nelson Chamisa revealing that all government ministries in the country are now connected and online.
He said efforts are now being concentrated on interconnecting with the provincial government structures and other government departments.
Responding to questions from parliamentarians in the house of assembly last week, Chamisa said e-government was now in full operation in all ministries.
“All our ministries are now online and I must say that we also would want those programmes to now cascade to the districts, to our various provincial offices and also ward offices," he said.
In response to a question by another parliamentarian, Chamisa said “members of parliament were also beneficiaries of the e-government programme” hence they will soon have top of the range ICT equipment “brought to them" to enhance their communication and responsiveness.
Government ministries such as the finance ministry now have fully fledged websites www.zimtreasury.org which helps the public to access crucial documents and other information.
In his Zimbabwe ‘Medium Term Plan 2011 – 2015’, Tapiwa Mashakada, Zimbabwean minister for economic planning and investment promotion, outlines that his ministry will make it a policy and major objective to transform government operations, service delivery through effective usage of ICTs; and to transform the country into knowledge based society.
Mashakada's policy target was for e-government connectivity and services to all government ministries and public institutions, such as education and health establishments by the end of this year.
