FTTH Council Global Alliance names 4th November annual Gimme Fibre Day!

The FCGA have announced the 4th November as the annual Gimme Fibre! day.

The FCGA, FTTH Council Global Alliance, announced today that they have named the 4th November the annual Gimme Fibre! day. This was done to highlight the benefits of FTTH and to encourage governments to make it easier to deploy fibre networks.

At the end of 2014 the global fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) market reached 162.6 Million subscribers, according to a FCGA study. Experts suggest that 2015 will witness a rapid increase in FTTH deployments, driven by consumers' demand for an "in-home lifestyle and online-dominated experience" for which they are willing to buy the service.

The 4th November was selected for commemorating the birthday of Sir Charles Kuen Kao, Physics Nobel Prize Winner for ground-breaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication.
