Gambia has been without both telecommunications and internet services since Wednesday because of bad weather that has swept across the nation.

The West African country, with a population of 1.8 million, first lost its internet connection on Wednesday before the problem spilled into Thursday evening.

Several internet users have reportedly been unable to connect and log on to their internet either on mobile phones, desktop computers or laptops.

Users, especially those addicted to facebook could be seen running from one internet cafe to another in search of connections while those in offices were left desperate with their work practically being halted.

The entire of Gambia could not check their emails or chat with friends through social networks either.

GSM operators offering internet services such as AFRICELL, Q-Cell and Comium, later sent messages to mobile subscribers informing them that, due to a problem with the Gambia Telecommunications Company Limited (Gamtel) link, "all internet services in the country are down".

The subscribers were further informed that "Gamtel is expected to resolve" the problem shortly, while Q-Cell informed its customers that Gamtel would resolve it by midday on Thursday

However, the technicians of the country's giant telecommunications company were able to resolve the matter later during the day.

Several multinational companies, banks, internet cafés and general business in Gambia have complained that the internet disconnection has caused them huge revenue losses.
