ZICTA makes headway on universal project
The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has constructed 147 communication towers under the universal project to build 169 towers in rural areas of the country's ten provinces.
The project was officially launched in April this year by the Zambian government in a bid to improve communication in rural areas of the country.
The towers are being constructed by Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei Technologies.
The construction of the towers was however expected to be completed by October 2014. ZICTA has not given any reason why the completion of the project has delayed.
ZICTA assistant public relations officer said the 147 towers erected so far were already on air while the remaining 22 are still undergoing works to be linked to the airwaves.
