Nigeria's Benue State has announced a partnership with Google to train 10,000 young people in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across the state.

The project, announced by Governor Hyacinth Alia, aims to empower young people and equip them with the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy.

The governor stressed the importance of the ICT training program, which he said would get Benue young people off the streets and provide them crucial digital skills.

"This initiative is designed to equip youths with the skills needed to compete in the digital economy, opening doors to endless opportunities," according to him.

Governor Alia also addressed the issue of cybercrime, often known as 'Yahoo-Yahoo,' which is rampant among the state's youngsters and encouraged them to use the 10,000 youth training as an opportunity to learn useful skills rather than engaging in criminal activity.

In addition to the ICT training, Governor Alia announced other efforts to encourage youth development in Benue State.

Governor Alia underscored the administration's commitment to youth development through this significant engagement with Google.

"We understand that the development of our youth is a cure for the advancement of Benue State. This is why we have launched various initiatives geared at empowering you and offering possibilities for your advancement," Alia added.
