Huawei celebrates Youth Month in SA by investing in interns
Huawei is hosting a career development session for interns at its Johannesburg innovation centre.
This training is an important component of 12-month collaboration with the Department of Labour and Employment (DOEL), which is now in its second year of implementation.
The DOEL's online database is used to recruit matriculants and graduates from higher education institutions looking for work.
Interns are given extensive on-the-job training in information and communication technologies once they have been selected.
They are allocated a mentor with the goal of improving their skills and securing formal employment inside the Huawei ecosystem.
Christina Naidoo, Huawei SA's chief operations officer, stated that her company operates in a scarce-skills industry, with highly skilled engineers in artificial intelligence (AI), Cloud, and 5G primarily working in more developed regions.
"So, we have to grow the local skills base, which is what we are doing with this DOEL internship programme and others like it," Naidoo stated.
According to Kemogotsitse Bosielo, Huawei's public relations manager for Government Affairs, "We want to take on as many interns as possible, so the aim of today is to share skills and knowledge from Huawei leaders and past interns that will help."
