Intro Technology, the tech business of Egyptian conglomerate Intro Holdings, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman Data Park (ODP) to build a $450 million data centre in Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone.

ODP is Oman's largest data centre provider said the deal represents the first strategic partnership between the two organisations, focusing on delivering cloud solutions, Internet of Things services, and facilitating digital transformation in Africa and the Middle East.

The partnership will see the establishment of the multi-million dollar Kemet Data Centre in Egypt, which the parties said with its advanced infrastructure makes it an ideal platform for companies seeking secure and efficient cloud-based operations.

The MoU spells out that the ‘state-of-the-art’ data centre is set to be developed in two phases, over an 80 000 square metre area.

“It will provide critical infrastructure for businesses seeking cost-effective, scalable cloud solutions, faster data processing and enhanced latency - all essential components for improving user experience and business efficiency,” reads a statement.

Furthermore, the strategically located facility will incorporate solar energy to reduce its carbon footprint as the two companies combine to meet the growing demand for digital transformation across Africa.

Maqbool Al Wahaibi, CEO of ODP, said the joint investment and collaborative approach will support the growth and innovation in Africa and the Middle East.

“We look forward to working together to provide digital solutions through advanced data centers that meet the growing needs of companies worldwide to establish a presence in the region,” he said.
