Zain Sudan launches Bank of Khartoum mobile banking service
The Bank of Khartoum has joined forces with mobile operator Zain Sudan to launch a new mobile banking service called, Hassa.
Zain is the Kuwaiti headquartered mobile telecoms company with operations in the Middle East and Africa.
And in a press statement, Zain announced it launched the Hassa service to allow mobile phone users to complete most of their financial transactions and operations.
Zain customers will be able to do money transfers, as well as other services such as paying bills and using ATM functionalities without the need of opening a bank account, the statement reads.
Hassa can also be used to pay salaries of employees in government and the private sector.
Elfaith Erwa, Zain Sudan's managing director. said, "Hassa service comes in the partnerships between the Bank of Khartoum and Zain ...launching this unique service will be a leap in the sector of electronic services and is now available to all Zain subscribers."
"This service provides a new perspective in using mobile phones for more than just a communication means but also a tool that contributes to the facilitation and enrichment of people's," he said.
Sudan and South Sudan have two main operators namely Zain and MTN.
However, last month Zain's Sudanese operations were hit by subscriber losses and foreign currency fluctuations.
In South Sudan, Zain’s subscribers fell 15% from 760,000 in June 2013 to 645,000 this year.
Meanwhile, South African based telco MTN group reported an increase in its subscriber numbers by 1.3% to 8.8 million in Sudan for the company's half year results.
