Egypt grants 5G licences to Orange, Vodafone and e& Egypt
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in Egypt has signed agreements for the second phase of granting 5G licences to Orange Vodafone, and e& Egypt.
The signing ceremony was conducted at NTRA headquarters at the Smart Village on Monday, spearheaded by NTRA executive president Mohamed Shamroukh and minister of communications and information technology (MCIT), Amr Talaat.
According to the minister, the agreements solidify Egypt’s strategy to deploy advanced technological services to support key sectors including smart cities, logistics, healthcare and agriculture.
The awarding of the licenses to the operators marks the official commencement of 5G operations for all major telecom companies in Egypt following Telecom Egypt’s award of a 5G license in January.
According to Talaat, the combined value of the licences granted to Orange, Vodafone and e& Egypt is $675 million.
Talaat was quoted by Daily News Egypt highlighting the significance of 5G roll-out in the country.
He said: “The agreements are a crucial step in our efforts to deliver advanced technological services to our citizens.”
