Econet to introduce Twitter bundles in Zim
Econet is to introduce special bundles for social networking site, Twitter as it switches its focus to bundled products in a bid to provide cover for declining revenues from voice telephony.
It already charges about $1 for unlimited weekly WhatsApp access for its subscribers in addition to bundles for Opera Mini and Facebook. The Strive Masiyiwa founded telco giant, which now has about 9 million users on its network, is currently offering free access to Twitter for its subscribers as part of a promotion to encourage public usage of the platform.
Stanley Henning, the chief commercial and customer services officer for Econet Wireless, has now told ITWeb Africa that the company will soon introduce Twitter bundles although he would not say when this will be introduced.
"Twitter is currently accessible for free for our subscribers. But obviously we will be introducing Twitter bundles because bundles are the future," said Henning.
Rival operator, Telecel Zimbabwe also has unlimited WhatsApp and Facebook bundles that it is offering. The telecommunications industry in Zimbabwe has become competitive, with operators involved in cut-throat competition to promote usage of data and also expanding into other service areas such as insurance and mobile money.
"Going forward, you will see bundled products taking center stage; not just individual bundles but we may be looking at converged bundles," added Henning.
