Jovago's hotel booking mobile app launched

Hotel-booking website Jovago has announced a new mobile application which it says will allow its customers access to an inventory of 25,000 hotels in Africa as well as 200 000 worldwide, on and offline.

The company says launching the app illustrates commitment to African Internet Group's 'mobile first' campaign, and the development of 'trendy mobile applications' that help improve customer experience when searching for hotel accommodation.

Paul Midy, chief executive officer at Jovago indicated that they were swayed by the popularity of mobile devices when deciding to launch the app. "The launch of the app is a great milestone for us in order to offer great flexibility for the customer-centric mobile experience. We have noticed the immense growth of mobile devices in Africa and have used gathered knowledge to develop the most convenient hotel booking app. With the Jovago.com Hotels Booking, customers can readily access our growing inventory of hotels on the go with little to no hassles as our customer service team cater to their needs."

Pages for the hotels on the mobile applications will be supplemented with pictures, description, locations, amenities and reviews according to Jovago.

The website says users will also have access to their current and former bookings, even when they are offline, and the use of a map. The mobile application is available for free download on Google's Play Store to with more versions for other mobile platforms and devices in the pipeline.

Battle of the booking apps

The launch of a mobile app by Jovago takes place just over a month after Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky visited South Africa to launch the company's products.

Chesky said that Airbnb plans to expand further across the African continent, with listings in the region increasing by 145%, while the number of Africans using Airbnb to travel has increased by 139%.

Airbnb and Jovago offer a similar service and compete for a share of an increasingly competitive market space.
