uMax completes broadband roll-out for Harare, Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean ICT investment and holding company, Dandemutande's internet services operating unit, uMax, has completed the deployment of its wireless broadband network throughout the country’s capital city, Harare.

uMax's network is Zimbabwe's first 4G network and delivers high-speed wireless broadband internet services to households and small businesses in the 2.5 GHz frequency.

Officials at the company have revealed that the network set-up and deployment is valued at over $1 million.

"Alvarion's 4Motion solution enabled us to deploy a scalable, field-proven solution that makes it possible to deliver a unique broadband customer experience to the residents of Harare, one that is in line with our company goals and enjoyable brand," said Colin Franco, the chief technical officer at Dandemutande.

He added, “There is a significant opportunity in the Zimbabwean market for a high quality broadband service provider and with our state-of-the-art network we can deliver the kind of customer experience that will pave the way for on-going growth and profitability”.

The Zimbabwean company deployed Alvarion's industry-leading 4Motion solution to deliver multiple services such as VoIP, video-streaming and high-speed Internet access.

Alvarion's end-to-end wireless broadband solution, which comprises of core networking, RAN and CPE portfolios – is designed to supply customers with advanced broadband services at super-fast connections.

"uMax’s point of difference in the market is premised on its superior broadband experience delivered by our solution," said Hezi Lapid, the chief executive officer of Alvarion.

He added that through availing its solution to the Zimbabwean company, "Alvarion continues to reinforce its leadership position in the wireless broadband market in Africa by offering the latest wireless broadband technology solutions” that best fit the continent’s market.
