SLB (previously Schlumberger), a global energy technology provider, marked its 55th anniversary in Angola last month.

SLB notes that with its global footprint and significant experience, it has played a critical role in Angola's energy sector.

According to the company, SLB has contributed to the optimisation of Angola's oil and gas production by delivering "advanced technology and innovative solutions," ensuring the sustainable and efficient extraction of energy resources.

SLB celebrated its anniversary with a gala event in Luanda, attended by a number of dignitaries, including Angola's Secretary of State for Petroleum and Gas, José Alexandre Barroso.

In his remarks, Barroso praised SLB for its long-standing collaboration and support for Angola's socioeconomic progress.

Miguel Baptista, SLB's managing director for Central, East, and Southern Africa, said: "We took our first steps in Soyo-Zaire 55 years ago with the first log for Petrofina. Today, we have built our foundation in Angola on our fundamental principles of people, technology, and performance. We've built on this by expanding collaborations, boosting capacity, and increasing local spending; creating possibilities for local firms, investing in infrastructure, and increasing our revenue contribution.

"We will remain steadfast in the next 55 years and more to come; combining our expertise, resources, and vision, to make significant strides in shaping a sustainable energy future for Angola,” he said.

In a statement, SLB stated that its technology solutions throughout the years have considerably enhanced Angola's oil and gas industry, from the drilling of the Congo River crossing, which connected Cabinda gas to Angola LNG at Soyo, to the establishment of Africa's first and only subsea equipment plant.
