Rwanda hands out '120,000' laptops

Rwanda’s Ministry of Education has so far distributed about 120,000 laptops to 220 schools throughout the country.

This is according to Jean Paul Hitimana, in charge of Training and Awareness at an organisation called One Laptop per Child (OLPC).

He also says that over 2,000 teachers countrywide have been trained in basic computer skills to help them teach IT at their schools.

The project of giving laptops to school going children was launched by President Paul Kagame in 2008.

And the government’s target is to distribute about 200,000 laptops across the country by the end of 2013.
