Ghana to get Africa’s largest solar energy plant

UK renewable energy investment firm Blue Energy plans to build what it claims is the biggest photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant in Africa.

The 155 megawatt Nzema project, based in Ghana, could provide electricity to more than 100,000 homes, reports the BBC. Meanwhile, construction work on the $400 million plant is expected to start within 12 months.

Finance for the project, though, is still to be confirmed within six months, says the report.

The BBC further reports that unlike many other solar projects in Africa that use concentrated solar power, the Nzema plant will use photovoltaic (PV) technology to convert sunlight directly into electricity.
