Telcel Cash now available for Ghana Google Play users
Cellulant, a Pan-African payments technology business, has integrated Telcel Cash as an alternate payment mechanism for Google Play consumers in Ghana.
This connection allows Google Play users to add their Telcel Cash wallet and use mobile money payments for platform services.
Cellulant and Google said the move is intended to increase usage and downloads in a market where international card usage is limited.
Ghana, like many African nations, has low card penetration, leading to the emergence of alternative payment options like mobile money wallets. Africa dominates the US$1 trillion mobile money business, driving global innovation and acceptance.
Kevin McDaid, head of partnerships, payments platform for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, stated that expanding payment alternatives in Ghana and beyond is driven by creating an inclusive shopping experience for Google Play consumers.
Telcel Cash's integration in Ghana marks Google and Cellulant's first relationship in the area.
Richard Gesimba, vice president of Cellulant's Checkout Business Unit, expressed Cellulant's excitement about playing an important role in facilitating payments for Google Play, allowing thousands of Ghanaian users to access services while also contributing to Google Play's deeper penetration of the African market.
