Mobile subscribers on the increase in Algeria

Tele-density in Algeria has been calculated at 115% by end-November this year. Telecommunication authorities from the North African country have stated that the number of mobile telephony subscribers has reached near 45,5 million.

A report by the Algerie Presse Service (APS) quotes Mohamed Toufik Bessai, President of the Regulatory Authority of Post and Telecommunications (ARPT), as confirming that the subscriber figure includes over 8 million 3G customers.

In an interview with APS, the leader of the regulatory body said, "The park subscribers to GSM (mobile) recorded 37.258 million subscribers up 30 November 2014, i.e. a decrease of 1.360 million compared to the same period of 2013."

Bessai also referred to three mobile operators, Mobilis, Djezzy and Ooredoo, and their respective market position in terms of subscriber numbers.

Djezzy is said to lead with 17.887 million, with Mobilis in second position (10,815,000) and finally Ooredoo (855,6000) writes APS. In terms of market share, these subscriber numbers represents 47,9%, 29% and 23,1% respectively.
