New app allows Zimbabweans access to draft constitution

Mobile phone users in Zimbabwe will now be able to view or download a rough draft of the country’s newly proposed constitution via a new mobile application.

The app launched by non-governmental organisation, Veritas Zimbabwe, comes just days before Zimbabweans vote for the new constitution in a referendum.

Reports indicate that the Zimbabwe Draft Constitution App was launched so that mobile phone users on the go can gain access to the full draft constitution that is going for referendum.

The app is compatible with Nokia mobile phones on 5th edition of the series 40 platform; Android mobile phones running Android version 2.2 (Froyo), and Blackberry mobile phones running BB OS version 5.0.

It can also be accessed using the Blackberry Playbook running BB OS version 2.0 and Android tablets running Android version 2.2 (Froyo).

It was further reported that the southern African country’s new constitution is a crucial step towards a general election later in the year to end a four-year coalition government between president Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF and prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC party.

Zimbabweans will have to either vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ for the proposed new constitution, and if accepted it will pave the way for the presidential and parliamentary elections expected in July.
