EMC Centera gains ground as platform of choice for fixed content applications

Widely viewed as the first unifying storage platform for the myriad of fixed content management applications, the EMC Centera content-addressed storage (CAS) solution has met with broad acceptance since its introduction four months ago. Centera`s value is realised through the applications that drive it, and today EMC announced a groundswell of partner support, including:

* 20 new Centera integration partners

* 7 new Centera resellers

* 20 Centera-integrated applications available today

* Over 50 Centera partners to date

EMC Centera, the world`s first CAS solution, employs breakthrough content addressing technology to provide online access and assured long-term content authenticity for the storage of fixed content such as electronic documents, e-mail, digital X-rays, digital MRIs, movies, check images and broadcast content.

Online evidence room

The Southern California High Tech Task Force is now implementing Centera to store and manage its digitally-based evidence. The Centera CAS solution has become the online evidence room for Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, handling everything from crime scene photos to the massive volumes of digital records used in corporate fraud cases.

The Task Force`s Lieutenant Rick Craigo, stated: "The first priorities in storing digital evidence are making sure that it is secure, and does not change over extended periods of time. Centera`s content authentication, self-healing capabilities and remote replication features provide a higher level of long-term information integrity than the CD-ROM technology we currently use; when you add online access via an encrypted data stream and plug-and-play scalability to the mix, the value proposition is impossible to ignore."

Mark Lewis, EMC`s Executive Vice President of New Ventures and Chief Technology Officer, said: "With Centera, EMC has developed one of the true breakthrough storage technologies of the past 10 years and applied it to a very specific and long-standing hole in the storage market. Stovepipe online architectures or offline tape warehouses were adequate mediums for storing fixed content when global digitisation was in its infancy, but today, fixed content represents 50% of all newly created information and requires its own optimised solution."

The Centera CAS solution provides customers with an optimised storage platform for all of their fixed content applications. Seventeen partners running the gamut of fixed content management applications have integrated 20 solutions for immediate availability with Centera, and are delivering solutions today for medical imaging, document imaging and management, content management, e-mail archiving, biotech content management, check imaging, and video archiving requirements.

The current solutions available include: AMICAS`s ForeverPriors; Avid Technology`s Unity Media Manager; BancTec`s eFirst Archive; Connected`s TLM; CSC`s Check Vision; Digital Concepts, Inc`s MetaSoft; Documentum`s ECM Platform; EPSIIA`s DX Server; HA Thomson`s StorageSwitch; Hypertrust`s Secure Archiving; IXOS` eCONserver; KVS` Enterprise Vault; LEGATO`s XtenderSolutions, including DiskXtender Family, ApplicationXtender Family, EmailXtender Family; Scientific Software`s CyberLab; daa Systemhaus` ScanView; TOWER Technology`s TOWER IDM and WebCapture; and Unisys` Payment Image Archive.

Peter Gerr, Senior Research Analyst for the Enterprise Storage Group, said: "At this early stage, EMC`s recruitment of over 50 partners committed to delivering Centera-based solutions points to the industry`s hunger for a storage solution designed specifically for fixed content storage management. Fixed content, what ESG refers to as 'reference information`, will be the driving force behind the next major paradigm shift in information management. The Centera CAS solution appears well on its way to becoming a unifying storage platform for the numerous, disparate fixed content management applications on the market today."

In addition, 20 new partners have committed to - or completed - integration with Centera, and include: CyberArc, daa Systemhaus, Digital Concepts, Inc, Educom, Enigma Data Systems, EPSIIA, HA Thomson, Hypertrust, INSCI Corp, Intercom, Princeton Softech, Progress Systems, Seven Ten Storage Software, Inc, Signiant, SRA International, SystemWare, TrueArc, Vividon, VoiceIQ, and Unisys. Finally, seven new partners have agreed to resell Centera-based solutions, including: Dimension Data, Logical, Northrop Grumman Information Technology, NuTech, Paradise Canyon, Wave Imaging, and Xerox Connect.
