Kenya's Nairobi Garage opens exclusive Club Space
Nairobi Garage, which claims to be Africa's largest co-working office space for tech start-ups, techies and entrepreneurs, based in Kenya, has announced the launch of its Club Space, a membership-only space situated within the premises of its newly opened Entrepreneurship Centre in Nairobi.
The tech hub says the new Club Space features on-demand office facilities and an exclusive networking lounge to promote connections within the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Hannah Clifford, director of Nairobi Garage said the criteria to join the Club Space are not explicit, "but we give priority to business-owners, investors, professionals in the field of tech and innovation, as well as ecosystem developers."
Membership includes half-price access to professional meeting rooms, discounts on event space, and access to the central Nairobi Garage online network of over 500 members.
Clifford told ITWeb Africa that over 800 start-ups have called Nairobi Garage home since 2012. She also confirmed expansion plans underway for a third location within the year in Nairobi, but did not mention an exact date.
Recently, Liquid Telecom Kenya announced a partnership with Nairobi Garage, where it would be providing free internet to Nairobi Garage's Entrepreneurship Centre.
Clifford added, "We also look for partnerships - such as our partnership with Liquid Telecom - which benefits our members, by opening up to them a network they want and allows us to keep prices reasonable."
Liquid Telecom's network supports up to 300 co-workers with free high-speed fibre internet connectivity of 150Mbps.
Adil Youssefi, Liquid Telecom Kenya's CEO announced that the company would also offer Microsoft cloud services and applications that developers and IT professionals can use to build, deploy and manage applications across the continent.
Clifford said, "Our strategy is to keep in touch with the needs and interests of our members and future members. Nairobi Garage exists because we provide a service that is designed for and with local businesses."
In August, the hub launched its Business Services initiative, intended to help make the country's top professional service providers accessible to start-ups and small businesses at affordable rates.
At the time, Clifford said, "Even the best start-ups need access to key professional services - but it can be tough to identify the top providers and agree on a reasonable fee. This can lead to start-ups failing to make use of vital business support services."
The Club Space membership is priced at KES4,500 (US$45) per month.
