The government of The Gambia and the International Development Bank (IDB) initiated the Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Project, worth $400 000, at a ceremony held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, Daily Observer reports.
The launch marks the handing over of $290 000 as a counterpart contribution from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
The objective of the project is to enhance the capacity and knowledge of the project management staff of the government ministries and agencies involved in the implementing of IDB projects (in the areas of procurement, project management and the monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded projects), to ensure the successful and timely implementation of those projects, as well as help equip the senior project management staff with project leadership and communication skills.
According to Foroyaa Online, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Mod Secka, said capacity-building results in human resource development and that the government of The Gambia recognises the critical importance of the input of a highly skilled and competent workforce to realise its desired development goals.
He noted that the government is pleased with the IDB for approving the project proposal for the grant for capacity building in project management.
