Global broadband wireless access development and manufacturing company Infinet Wireless has successfully negotiated several implementation projects within the Africa market, including with Camtel (Cameroon Telecommunications) and with the Zimbabwe government.

The deal with the Cameroonian telco to modernise and expand broadband infrastructure across the country follows meetings between Infinet chief executive officer Dmitry Okorokov and Technical Support Engineer Ludovic Takam, of Cameroon - along with the heads of companies from Egypt, Algeria, Bolivia, Nigeria, South Africa, Congo, Ethiopia and Cameroon at the Russia-Africa Economic Forum and Summit.

The Summit took place on 23 - 24 October 2019 in Sochi, Russia.

According to a statement from Infinet Wireless, Camtel has agreed to create a pilot zone to modernise and expand the existing Camtel telecommunications infrastructure using Infinet equipment.

The company also met with Zimbabwe's Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services which resulted in an agreement on the implementation of joint projects.

Okorokov said, "Infinet has been represented in the African market for a long time, so we are therefore familiar with the specifics of doing business with our specialized clients: telecom operators and Internet providers. At the forum in Sochi we demonstrated our solutions to a completely new audience, which includes companies from various sectors of the African region's economy."

Key areas for us are security and building a modern telecommunications infrastructure. Infinet is ready to offer its competencies in this area through a range of tried and tested products suitable for the African environment," he added.

In May 2019 ITWeb Africa reported that Camtel had announced it would open up shareholding to private and public entities - and that the company owns the South Atlantic Inter Link (SAIL) fibre optic cable from Kribi in Cameroon to Fortaleza in Brazil, and partly owns the Nigeria-Cameroon Submarine Cable System (NCSCS), which runs from Kribi to the MainOne landing station in Lagos.
