ITU, Zambia form cyber security alliance
Zambia is working with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to improve the country's cyberspace.
This will culminate in the government providing advanced training to prosecutors and other law enforcement agencies, including cyber security capacity development and electronic evidence management skills.
ITU will collaborate with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority on this project.
On Tuesday, they convened a Cyber security Data Privacy, Capacity Development, Policy, and Regulation workshop in Lusaka, Zambia's capital.
The workshop in Lusaka was organised to provide relevant officials with training to use developing Artificial Intelligence-powered tools and modern technological expertise to improve threat detection.
Milner Makuni, the government's director of communication and digital technologies, stated that escalating cyber-crime poses a huge threat to the Southern African nation's security, economy, and population.
He said in 2022, Zambia registered 100,000 cybercrime cases, primarily on social media platforms.
"That upward trend necessitated a robust response from the government to continue implementing measures through collaborations and partnerships," Makuni told reporters.
He added that the partnership with ITU came at a time when Zambia was revising the 2021 Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Act.
