Google to open AI centre of excellence in Zambia
Google and Zambia are teaming up to establish an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence at the University of Zambia.
The Zambian Ministry of Technology and Science revealed the development yesterday via social media.
The facility is expected to provide an opportunity for young innovators to develop solutions to the country's societal challenges.
"Young people will be coming here to create products and solutions from their ideas that can help us alleviate certain problems," said Felix Mutati, Zambia's minister of technology and science.
The Google partnership is Zambia's second AI collaboration in recent months as the country turns up its efforts to promote the adoption of emerging technologies.
Zambia and the Czech Republic began collaborating in July to train young people in AI, and cyber security.
25 scholarships that cover bachelors and master's degrees in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and related information and communication technologies were pledged by the Czech Republic.
